What is OData and how is it useful in BUZ?

OData (Open Data Protocol) is a standard way of accessing and querying data over the internet. In practical terms, it lets external tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI connect directly to BUZ and pull data from your system.

Instead of exporting a report by hand every time you need it, OData creates a reusable connection to your BUZ data that you can refresh whenever you like.

BUZ provides a secure OData feed containing structured business data such as sales, leads, products, jobs and scheduling, and financial data.

To connect, you:

  1. Sign in with your BUZ credentials.
  2. Choose a report (dataset).
  3. Apply filters (for example, a date range, sales rep, or branch).
  4. Load that data into your reporting tool.

From there you can refresh the data at any time, build dashboards, and analyse trends without going back into BUZ to re-export anything.

Why use OData instead of standard reports?

Section titled “Why use OData instead of standard reports?”
  • Live data, no manual exports. Refresh a report instantly rather than re-exporting from BUZ. Instead of exporting sales figures every day, you just click Refresh in Excel.
  • Advanced reporting. You are not limited to the standard BUZ report layouts. Combine multiple datasets, build pivot tables, create custom KPIs, and track trends over time.
  • Works with tools you already use. OData integrates directly with Microsoft Excel (Power Query / Get & Transform), Power BI, and other tools that support the OData standard.
  • Scalable. As your data grows, OData helps you handle larger datasets, automate reporting, and build business dashboards.
  • Sales reporting — track performance by rep, branch, or product; monitor gross profit, commissions, and variance; spot trends over time.
  • Lead tracking — analyse lead sources and marketing performance, track conversion rates by rep or branch, and monitor pipeline health.
  • Production and workflow — view job schedules and dispatch pipelines, track workload across teams, and identify bottlenecks.
  • Financial insights — monitor receivables, track deposits and banking activity, and reconcile financial data.
